PAINTING TRIP/HONEYMOON
June 10th - 15th 2018

For four years I have been showing + selling my work in The Christina Gallery on the island of Martha's Vineyard, in Edgartown. When I first visited, it was April 2014, and cold, rainy, and bleak. Finally last summer, I was able to visit for a few days in June, when all the roses were blooming, and painted on location around the island. This year, we went back for a full week, and I was able to paint, sketch and truly immerse myself in the environment. The island an interesting mix of wild, untamed beauty, combined with a very posh and upscale modern vibe. Conflicting, but not in a bad way.
We mainly stayed local, in Edgartown, where it was easy to leave the hotel carrying all my things, and walk to the gallery, the shops, and many painting locations.

PLEIN AIR PAINTING + SKETCHING
FOOD + DRINK
If you want good seafood, the Vineyard is definitely the place to go. But it's honestly difficult to find anything reasonably-priced. $100+ dinners are easy to have, but it's worth it, (if you are only there for a short time or are extremely wealthy.) The restaurants create dishes that are true works of art, and they aren't skimpy on the portions either, like some fancy restaurants. Some places we really liked were The Port Hunter, in downtown Edgartown, where we sat outside on a brick sidewalk surrounded by flowering baskets, and a cool breeze. They were one of the more reasonable places, and their Bluefish entree was insanely delicious. The Lighthouse, in the Harbor View Hotel and overlooking the water, was the most artistic and impressive place we went (the pricetage was also impressive).

At the Lighthouse: Clam chowder, with full clams, pancetta, carrots, and cracked black pepper, alongside crab cakes with a house-made sauce with greek yogurt and sweet corn.
SUNSETS
We drove out one evening to Aquinnah, where the wind and the beauty of the sunset nearly blew us away. The last evening we were there, we finished eating at the Lighthouse Grille, and walked out onto the beach. The day had been overcast so we didn't expect much, until all of a sudden the sky exploded in color and light. It was the best last evening we could have hoped for, and many many paintings will be made from these photos!
