LANDSCAPE PAINTINGS - CONTEMPORARY TRADITIONALISM
Kate's landscape paintings have been inspired mainly by her travels abroad in Ireland and Italy, as well as her home in New England. She chooses scenes that juxtapose extreme closeness, with lofty distance, and offer a sense of mystery. Her pieces beckon the viewer to jump into the painting, and explore what could be beyond the bend in the road, over the horizon, or through the thicket. Her bold use of color and brushstrokes are reminiscent of the post impressionists, with a contemporary and simplified touch. She is the youngest artist to be represented by the Christina Gallery in Martha's Vineyard, showing alongside her art heroes John C. Traynor, the late Curtis Hanson, and William R. Davis.
